“CAVALIA”, Like a Grand Poem for the Eyes and Ears

One of the great things about showing horses is traveling to some of the largest cities around the country.  While showing in Tampa, Florida, I was lucky enough to be able to go to the show CAVALIA being held at the fairgrounds.  CAVALIA is basically a Broadway show with horses as the main characters. According to Cavalia’s  President and Artistic Director, Normand Latourelle, “Cavalia is an invention for both the equestrian world and the world of the arts”.

I found this show to be amazing and emotional.  All of the performing horses are studs and geldings.  There are no mares in the show.  It was amazing watching the stallions working together freely.  There was a definite leader but there was no fighting.  They seemed to be having so much fun.  Equestrian Choreographer Frederic Pignon, explains, “Our philosophy is about understanding the horse, as opposed to making him understand us.”

The lighting and illustrations projected on the 70-metre wide screen were incredible.  Erick Villeneuve, Director and Visual Conceptor has brought innovation and ingenuity to Cavalia at a level that has never been seen before in a horse show.

If you ever get an opportunity to see this wonderful equine theatre, you should.  You will not be disappointed.  For more information and show schedule go to www.cavalia.net.
