Coach Karen Evans Mundy
Karen Mundy started her riding career at the age of 12 with a hunter/jumper large pony. After out growing the pony she received her first horse which just happened to be a quarter horse. Because she had a quarter horse she got her mom to take her to a quarter horse show to see what it was all about. When she saw all of the events that were offered, she knew she wanted to do them all, english and western. And do them all she has! Over the years Karen has won 8 AQHA World Show All-Around Amateur titles, on 5 different horses. She has also won World or Congress championships or Reserves in working hunter, showmanship, hunter hack, horsemanship, equitation over fences, western riding, hunter under saddle, trail, hunt seat equitation, and pleasure driving. She has won a total of 19 World Championships and 22 Reserve World Championships. She also won the High Point All-Around a record 6 times. She has also won many other individual awards way to numerous to mention here. Karen credits Tommy Manion and Sandy Vaughn for teaching her to train and prepare her horses to show.
Needless to say Karen has done it all and now she has decided to help others achieve their showing goals. Recently she gave up her Amateur card and began helping amateur and youth riders.
In her new role as coach Karen specializes in All-Around events. As coach her goal is to teach her students to ride, train, care for, prepare and show their own horses.

Question and Answers with Karen Mundy:
Q: 1. When did you decide you wanted to help others with their showing goals?
I had a very long and fortunately, a successful showing career as an Amateur. Showing at the National level for SO many years, was very stressful both physically and mentally. I always put ALOT of pressure on myself to be the best I could and try to maintain the World Show level of competition. I am such a perfectionist, that when I would make a mistake, it would just be devastating. I simply could not overcome those feelings, and showing horses was not fun for me anymore. I decided that is was time for me to stop the pressure I was putting on myself, and give up my amateur card. I have always loved teaching the people that have purchased horses from me, to help them initially getting with the horse, that I knew I would love teaching. I am a very goal oriented person, and love to teach and guide people in reaching their goals. It now brings alot of joy when I see improvement in my clients, and they start reaching their goals.
2. You were so successful when you were showing, do you ever get a desire to get in the ring again?
At this point, it wouldn’t bother me if I didn’t ever show again. However, I do see myself showing some in the future. Me showing, is not my program, per say. I teach my clients to ride and train their own horses. I do some training of clients horses, but they are their horses and I want them to show them. I can see myself catch riding a little, and I have shown a couple of clients horses already.
3. Do you find working with alot of different personalities interesting?
OH YEAH. That is probably the most challenging part of teaching and coaching. I have youth kids, amateurs and Select Amateurs that I coach, and each person is different. But for the most part, I am learning how to handle the different personalities. LOL
4. What is your favorite part of coaching and working with your clients?
Seeing the improvement in their riding and I love it when I teach someone how to train their horse to do something differently, and they make it work. And especially teaching and coaching clients and they WIN!!!!!
If you are looking for someone to help you achieve your showing goals, call someone that knows how to do it and what it takes, because she has done it all. For more information you can go to www.mundyquarterhorses.com.
